not sure about the rpm. but I'm pretty sure thats what todd booker ran on his GT and he was always pretty fast.

That is what todd ran.. i run that same tire size in second gear and usaully dont go over 6500 at the end of the straight aways... Sumic Gt is a pretty good tire thats less than 50 bucks..

No need to buy new tires for dirt.  Just some nice deep tread tires for the front.

J-Yard specials work just fine.

ill check the local junk yard for some decent 195/70/14s  tires. my car now gots 185 70 14, would those get me by or would i be bouncing off the rev limiter?

i doubt you will be on the limiter if taylor is only running 6500 rpm. thats not THAT much of a difference.

hoosier ;) arent u "high dollar" btw charlie ima grab that plastic and be in rockton tonight. unless this karting deal work out ill be in mach park @ 6. hmu on my cell i got that plastic in my truck now!! i maybe able to get to ryans if u talk to him and he says its cool to drop it at the shop. otherwise ill be by loves gas station in about 40 minutes lmk deuces, btw new rubber is better. most j yard rubber os dry rotted (unsafe at speeds) but once in awhile u can find good rubber there just i usually dont. for the 35-40 they charge i spend 75 and get good meats tires last all year with grinding. and 1 groove at half way point. dont let rubber fool you a 5 year old tire is not good. even if it appears to be sufficient its not. who even mounts old tires?

5 year old tires are fine - DRY ROTTED tires are not.  A stored in door 10 year old tire would be fine.

You can find alot of decent rubber at the j yard.  $15 is what pnp charges IIRC.

Or CL is always a great spot.

14" tires are getting hard to find.

Might want to step up to 15" rims.

in school we where told not to ever mount a tire older than 5 years (it loses it integrity) which is true. i think my certificates would back that lol not being a brager dry rot is dangerous but even a 5 year or 10 year old tire i would "personally" not trust. ive had tires blow sidewalls out on the track, and tires shred (sycamore) beater. doing 60 mph its sketchy wilmot your in excess of 75 mph possibly more with a good gear set.

as for the new hoosiers i found one guy that said he can get them for me. havent pursued but he is a hoosier dealer so idt he is b.s. they will definetely be out in time for the new year! cant wait see you all at the track!devil

I don't feel like reading thru rules right now but was there anything in the rules about tires needing to be street tires or will the hoosiers be legal? just pro or both classes?

I ran 185/70/14's the last race of the year because i got some new ones and they worked great.. only bumped the rpm a little tiny bit.. i have never hit the limiter at Wilmot with either of those tire sizes

it has to be a DOT tire. 65 series or taller.

75mph? not sure about that. I'm not even sure we could do that at lake geneva (slightly bigger than wilmot) on pavment. i would say 60-65 is closer to it. most people are barely touching their rev limiters which is usually set at 62mph from most manufacturers. some don't even ever hit it.

i ran 2rd gear in my car at 6800 rpms with custom geared trans. ran off rev limter half way down stretch    (7600)with a 4 speed even with the small tires, and ran 3rd gear at 6000 rpms with right tires and stock 5 speed.  people have rev limiters? lol surprise we where doing 60 at little ol sycamore in a mild built eclipse "bolt ons" as i like to call them. thats a 1/4 its all about momentum and keeping a line and sticking to it. as well a the right suspension. unless my gauges where all hooked up wrong. kelly?

Hmmm....  I own a shop were we do about 500 tires a year for the last 4-5 years.  I'll take that experience over your certificate.  :)

Our local Hoosier dealer has been contacted and has stated they are not available yet.
