Focus Unbreakable Lower Motor Mount

Crossposted from my thread on Focaljet. Figured my first post should be a how to. This was done with my 08 Focus.
so after 4 trials, a 95% (Bolts didn't fit) I finally got mine in.
I'll have pictures once I get access to a card reader sometime today.
Tools needed:
13mm gear wrench
11/16 Socket
7/16 socket (I think for the oem bolts)
Jack/Jack stands
I cheated and used silicone spray to help get it in.
flat head screwdriver
Hammer (only needed for pushing the bushing farther in)
This is the old mount vs new:
Step 1: Jack the car up, support with jack stands.
Step 2: Remove the two bolts holding the oem mount in.
Remove the OEM mount. The simplest way I found is to push the motor forward (I didn't need a jack to get my mount out at all, you might need a jack). and twist the oem mount to one side and pull out. (It requires less pressure than you think to get it out.)
Step 3. Grab your gear wrench, and unbolt the mount on the transmission itself. The two bolts on the side are hard to get to (wait until you try and tighten them again).
If you have silicone spray (NO WD-40 or PB Blaster!) your install will be much easier. Once the mount is off the transmission, grab your replacement, and spray the inside of the mount, and the sides of the mount. Push it in (I had to pound my bushing in a little farther to get mine in), and put the new bolt in, but DON'T TIGHTEN IT.
Get back under the car, and carefully spray some silicone spray where the mount connects to the K brace. try to be as far away as possible, My stuff is really.. potent.. Plus a kid where I went to high school died from huffing the stuff not 2 weeks ago).
shove the mount in at an angle (same angle you used to pull the original out.) with the silicone you shouldn't need a hammer, a few good shoves got it in for me. Don't put a bolt in yet)
Tilt the engine forward again, and spin the mount into alignment with the motor. Depending on how lucky you are, you might have to really wrestle with your motor.
(I had the bolt in the first time and couldn't get it to line up) lesson learned.
Start putting the 13mm bolts back into the mount, starting at the top. Leave the one thats on the bottom (the one you can get to with a socket) for last, as its too hard to even the bolt holes up with that one in. You're not going to get the top one tight (I don't have a torque wrench so I don't know) but I got it as tight as possible. The bottom one on the side is harder yet. The one on the very bottom is easy. I put as much torque as I Could muster using a wrench.
Once that's done, push or pull the motor until you can get the bolt into the K brace's end of the mount. (You shouldn't have to adjust it much at this point.) At this point I torqued both of the mount bolts as tight as possible.
Take your car off the jack stands, and take her out of a test drive. My launch noise actually changed a lot (I can't describe it, but once it stops raining and isn't as windy, I'll take a video.
I no longer have wheel hop when I break grip, my transmission shifts better (I actually feel it engage, and its not as jerky when I let the clutch out.)
I did have an increase in vibration in the car, mostly in 5th gear around 50mph..
Special thanks to Karl over at Massive Speed System for being awesome and figuring out why the bolts wouldn't fit.. Still your fault though bro ;)
Great write up, Brad. And welcome to Massiveforums! The filthiest thing in your day, next too...
I will. After you make a few contributions. I'd like to see some additions to the (world renowned) "Pure Awesomeness" thread. And these contributions better freakin well be - AWESOME.
And then maybe talk some shit in "the street" section. Then. Then we will share dirty pictures.
