Massive Speed Race Wagon 2010 Build Coverage
Damn that thing's looking good so far. Just got mine painted today too. Anywhere between 2 and 6 coats on various parts of the car. Stupid sprayer instructions had me thin the paint out so much that it hardly stuck, so after most of the 2 quarts ended up in runs and on the ground, I got another quart that me and my wife rolled on with 4" rollers. Your car may look awesome, but mine has character... Wait, yours is a wagon, it has character too. Damn. Well, mine has... uh... track experience?

So are you finished painting and stickering already? It went pretty fast when you put your minds to it. Speaking of stickers, hey Kdogg, any luck with mine? I'm going to need 1 more made, with black. Just gotta find the design and get the size yet, then send that info to you, if you have time.
I wanted to get the cage painted, of course ran out of paint half way through yesterday. It's getting finished as we speak though. I'm positive the exterior paint wont be attempted for Sunday. I'm hoping to have it running really. Dropping in the engine is easy, but of course we have to tidy up all the wiring and get all the manual swap details worked out.
Minimum still need to mount the window net. Windscreen. Hatch structure. Cut off switch.
You guys working on it today?
Any updates? I hope my showing up with busted parts didn't hinder the project too bad! I'm off to Pick N Pull today to hopefully get a new assembly and once the new hub is pressed in and the new ball joint (upper) is pressed in I'm set, short of reassembly, so I'd like to help out. Just let me know if you're going to be working on it, either tomorrow, Wed or Thurs I should be free at least 1 night, possibly 2.
Been slaving on her all weekend. Engine/trans is in, just cleaning up wiring and hopefully get her started up real soon.
I'll send you a PM, so I can give you my phone number in case you don't have it. I was at PnP today and broke my 3/8 ratchet (just got it from Sears) so I gotta replace it, and maybe pick up a cordless battery powered impact wrench. 2 bolts holding me up from getting that assembly, and the tie rod end (which is one of the bolts) is just spinning. Fun stuff. Let me know if you get it started! I'll try to swing by after PnP.
Ok, after over an hour of searching on the ----- problem, I found a forum somewhere (forgot to copy or remember or write down address) I found a lot of people had this problem, but nobody mentioned how to fix it. The best I've found was this...
"Shes back up n runnin. What i did was put the car into 3rd, pushed it forward, then put it back into nuetral and it started right up.
This may be the solution when you have Dashes(---) where the Mileage is supposed to be. If that doesnt work, check you fuses. Fuse R8 is one of the important ones that can mess with you, so check it first. "
Best I've found so far. Without pulling any fuses last night I did try looking most of them over, they all looked ok from what I could see. I gotta give my eyes a rest, as well as my brain, but I'll do another bit of searching in a little bit. I really want to see her out there Sunday!
Well the sumbitch cranked over! That's something. :)
That alone made it worth being there 10 hours yesterday/last night/this morning
She LIVES!!!!!! That is all.
What, no pictures of it running?
Big ups to Scott, Travis, Ehren, Kentrell, Jeff, Jake and Moose, just a few of the folks who threw in a couple hours when they could to help get her goin!!!
Whew!!! Lots of work since last pix. Obviously engine and trans is in. Manual swap components in.
Had a bad relay that stumped us for a while. And then once the ECU was working we found the fuel pump to be stuck. The fuel had turned into pine tar from sitting so long, so we had to swap out the pump and give most all fuel department stuff a real good cleaning. Pumped out the fuel line and found big foots toe nail clippings and a few random varmints.
Needed 2 new wheel bearings. Axles.
ARP studs in front and class mandated/good idea 1" nuts.
Wheels are mid 80's Audi Coupe. They are unique and somewhat desirable as they are the odd-ball 4 x 108mm Focus bolt pattern but with less positive offset, so it fills out the wheel well a little better and widens up the track a hair. However, the center hub daimeter is a biiiit to small (57mm vs 63.3 IIRC), so we dreamed up a fixture and opened the center in the mill.
Close up of the wheel weights juuuust for you, Todd!!! ;) I'll take em off...
I definitely want to get this thing painted before Sunday...
Roller job will work great. But need 3 coats. And realistically 24 hours between coats.
So we ought to start paint damn soon while we tie up all the loose ends. Anyone down for some sanding and masking off this evening?

Wish I could have been there today, worked a long one today and another tomorrow. Thursday I gotta figure out the fuel tank situation. Kdogg, shooting you a PM shortly. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
